After four successful years of operating a beloved food truck, Harry’s Smokin’ BBQ is trading its wheels for walls. Known for its mouthwatering barbecue and creative twists on classic comfort food, this Toms River institution is set to open its first brick-and-mortar location this summer. Fans of the food truck and barbecue enthusiasts alike can look forward to a full menu of bold flavors, indoor seating, and an expanded dining experience.
From Food Truck to Storefront
Since November 2019, Harry’s Smokin’ BBQ has been serving up delicious barbecue classics and innovative creations from its food truck in Toms River. Now, owner Harry Clayton is making the leap to a permanent location at 213 Route 37, a space formerly occupied by Mi Mexico Lindo.
The decision to open a storefront was driven by growing customer demand and a desire to provide a more consistent dining experience.
“Opening the storefront is to better service our customers and gain new ones,” Clayton explained. “People can sit inside, and we won’t have to close due to bad weather.”
The new space will feature indoor seating for about 40 guests, a few outdoor tables, and a BYOB policy, allowing patrons to enjoy their favorite drinks alongside Harry’s signature barbecue.
What’s on the Menu?
Harry’s Smokin’ BBQ is celebrated for its mix of traditional barbecue and inventive culinary creations. The menu includes favorites like:
Pulled pork, brisket, and pulled chicken.
Cheesesteaks made with ribeye.
Burgers and melts.
Boardwalk-style fries.
Mac and cheese bites.
Corn nuggets.
For those craving something more adventurous, Harry’s “outside-the-box” offerings are sure to impress. Highlights include:
Redneck Egg Roll: Pulled pork, mac and cheese, and barbecue sauce rolled into a crispy egg roll.
Texas Twinkie Melt: Texas toast loaded with cream cheese, candied jalapeños, sliced bacon, brisket, and shredded cheese.
Texas Twinkie Burger: A burger packed with the same bold flavors as the melt.
The restaurant also offers a variety of options for non-barbecue lovers, including empanadas, quesadillas, tacos, nachos, hot dogs, and hot chicken. Specials like pastrami and Baltimore pit beef make occasional appearances, ensuring there’s something new for everyone to try.
“We’re going to continue to sell what put us on the map,” Clayton said. “But we’re also bringing more traditional barbecue items—like brisket and ribs—on a daily basis.”
Continuing the Tradition of Creativity
Harry’s Smokin’ BBQ has always stood out for its innovative approach to barbecue. Customers love the creativity behind menu items that blend traditional flavors with unexpected twists.
“People enjoy what we put out,” Clayton said. “They like the creativity and the variety. If someone in a group isn’t into barbecue, there’s always something else for them to enjoy.”
Catering and Future Plans
In addition to the restaurant, the Harry’s Smokin’ BBQ food truck will remain operational until the storefront opens, with potential for limited use afterward. Clayton also plans to expand the restaurant’s catering services, bringing his signature flavors to even more events and celebrations.
What to Expect This Summer
While an exact opening date hasn’t been announced, Harry’s Smokin’ BBQ aims to welcome diners in early July. With its unique blend of classic and creative dishes, the new restaurant promises to be a must-visit destination for food lovers in Toms River and beyond.
